A legal practitioner and Managing Partner at Law Corridor, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has condemned the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate, describing the decision as illogical and a threat to justice.

Olajengbesi, in a statement on Thursday, said the Senate’s action was a “national disgrace” for choosing to punish the accuser instead of addressing the sexual harassment allegations against the Senate President.

He said the decision raises critical questions about the priorities of the National Assembly and the integrity of its leadership.

“The handling of this matter has been neither honorable nor decent. It is an affront to justice, legal principles, and to the Senate itself for the Senate President to preside over the suspension of Senator Natasha,” he said.

Olajengbesi argued that the Senate President should have stepped aside to allow for an independent investigation into the allegations, adding that the suspension of Senator Natasha undermines the credibility of the legislative institution.

“If the Senate President refuses to step down, then the Senate itself must rise to the occasion, take decisive action, and prove that its credibility outweighs personal loyalties,” he added.

He called on the National Assembly to act with courage and uphold the principles of justice and fairness.

“The world is watching. Nigeria must demonstrate that it is a nation governed by the rule of law—where no one, no matter how highly placed, is above accountability,” he said.

The Senate had on Tuesday suspended Senator Natasha for six months following a heated debate over her allegation of sexual harassment against the Senate President during a plenary session.
