Nigeria’s victorious women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have been rewarded with $100,000 each by President Bola Tinubu following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

At a reception held in their honour on Sunday at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima, standing in for Tinubu, announced the president’s full reward package. Each of the players will receive $100,000, while the 11-man coaching and technical crew are to get $50,000 each.

The president also gifted the entire team and staff members a three-bedroom flat each at the Renewed Hope Estate, a housing project under the current administration.

“On behalf of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we honour you not just with words but with actions that reflect the pride of a grateful nation,” Shettima said.

In recognition of their outstanding achievements, Tinubu conferred on all team members and officials the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The players, led by their coaching staff, were warmly welcomed at the Presidential Villa by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, around 5:05 p.m.

Also present at the event were the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youths and Sports Development, Garba Maidoki; and Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Kabiru Amadou.

D’Tigress sealed their fifth consecutive AfroBasket championship title on August 3 after overpowering Mali 78–64 in the final. The victory marked their seventh continental title, cementing their dominance in African women’s basketball.
