Jos – At least ten people lost their lives in a road accident along the Jos–Bauchi Road in Plateau State in the early hours of Tuesday. The crash, which occurred around 12:12 am, involved four vehicles, including two trailers and two Ford Galaxy minibuses.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victims died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospitals for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State, Peter Longsan, said all ten deceased were adult men.
In a statement, the FRSC explained: “Today, 23rd December 2025, FRSC Plateau State Sector Command carried out a rescue operation following a road traffic crash after the Military Check Point along Jos–Bauchi Road in the outskirts of Jos. Nineteen people were involved: 17 males and two females.
Ten adult men died on the spot, while the injured were taken to General Hospital, Miango, Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), and Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.”
Eight of the deceased were deposited at Plateau Specialist Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital morgues, while two corpses were claimed by officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for interment.
The rescue operation was conducted jointly by FRSC, the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Military, and local villagers. Preliminary investigations revealed that excessive speed and reckless driving, which caused loss of control, were major factors in the crash.
Sector Commander, Corps Commander Olajide Mogaji, expressed his dismay at the incident, which occurred just 12 days after eight students of the University of Jos were killed in a separate accident.
He urged motorists to avoid night journeys, speeding, driving under the influence, or driving when fatigued.
Motorists were also reminded to report crashes or emergencies through the FRSC toll-free number 122.
