Tragedy struck in Farawa Quarters, Kano State, as an 18-year-old newlywed, Saudat Jibril, was arrested for allegedly slitting the throat of her 30-year-old husband, Salisu Idris, just nine days after their wedding ceremony.

The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident, disclosing that the suspect is currently in custody and will face charges for culpable homicide.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who issued a statement on the matter, said:
“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately dispatched a team of detectives to the scene”.

“The victim, Salisu Idris, was found critically injured and was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was sadly confirmed dead by medical personnel.”

Kiyawa further stated:
“The suspect used a sharp knife to slit the throat of the deceased. She has been arrested and is now being held at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section. She will be charged in court for the offence of culpable homicide.”

While the motive behind the gruesome act is yet to be established, the police assured the public that investigations are ongoing.

“The Command warns that it will not tolerate any form of violence or criminality. We are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation and justice for the victim,” the police spokesperson added.

The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. “Community cooperation is vital. We urge members of the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through our emergency numbers,” Kiyawa emphasized.

The case bears a chilling resemblance to a previous incident in the state involving a 16-year-old girl, Rahma Hussein, who stabbed her husband to death in Darmanawa, Tarauni Local Government Area, just six days after their wedding. Rahma was convicted and jailed for murder, but later pardoned and released after serving seven years in prison.
