A former Chairman of Oriade Local Government in Osun State, Taiwo Fatiregun, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress and his decision to join the Accord Party.

Fatiregun disclosed this in a statement made available to the public, where he informed residents of Oriade Local Government, political associates and supporters of his decision to quit the ruling party after what he described as a prolonged period of reflection and consultations.

According to him, the APC under its current leadership has strayed from democratic ideals and now operates in a manner that does not reflect the interests of ordinary party members.

He said, “The APC, under its present leadership, has derailed from democratic values and embraced anti-people tendencies that undermine the collective interest of party members. The party has been hijacked by a few individuals who have pocketed its structure for selfish reasons, leaving millions of loyal and innocent members neglected.”

Fatiregun, who served as council chairman for five years, said his decision was also influenced by what he described as the failure of the party leadership to address internal concerns raised by members.

“Despite repeated efforts to engage the leadership at all levels for reforms, every attempt was met with resistance and disregard,” he stated.

He further alleged that funds meant for grassroots development were not being used for the intended purposes, noting that such practices had continued to deprive communities of the benefits of government resources.

“It is unacceptable that billions of naira in allocations meant for grassroots development are shared among a privileged few, while the masses are left with nothing,” he said.

Fatiregun added that he decided to pitch his tent with the Accord Party because of its commitment to internal democracy and people-oriented governance.

“In light of these realities, I have chosen the Accord Party, a platform that respects internal democracy, values every member and places the welfare of the people above all else,” he said.

The former council boss called on his supporters and political associates across Oriade Local Government and Osun State to join him in the new political movement.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I will be officially joining the Accord Party on March 13, a date that also marks my birthday, a symbolic new beginning for our political family,” he added.
