The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, describing his continued claim to the party’s ticket as an alleged act of impersonation.

The party, in separate petitions to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General of the State Security Service (DSS), urged the security agencies to investigate, arrest and prosecute Hunye over his alleged conduct. The disclaimer and petitions, dated August 24, 2026, were sighted by Eagle 102.5FM, Ilese Ijebu.

In a disclaimer signed by the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the party said Hunye remained suspended and therefore lacked the legal or moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity.

The party identified Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan as its duly nominated governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate. According to the APC, the names of both candidates had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, with acknowledgment slips issued on August 7, 2026.

The party said Hunye’s suspension stemmed from a petition by the Executive Committee of his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area, dated March 23, 2026, over alleged “nefarious dealings” and “anti-party activities.”

It added that the Ipokia Local Government Executive Committee ratified the suspension on March 27, in accordance with Article 21 of the APC Constitution, while the Ogun State Working Committee approved the decision on April 7, 2026, following a meeting at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.

The APC further disclosed that the Ogun State Working Committee formally notified the party’s National Screening Committee for governorship aspirants of the ratification on May 5, 2026.

Warning members of the public, the party said anyone transacting political business with Hunye “under the guise of the APC” would be doing so at their own risk.

The party also cautioned media organisations against giving Hunye platforms to present himself as an APC governorship candidate, adding that its legal team had been directed to pursue contempt proceedings.

In the separate petitions to the IGP and DSS, the APC Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, alleged that Hunye’s activities amounted to impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and violation of provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The party requested that Hunye be invited for questioning, investigated and prosecuted if found culpable, while also seeking measures to prevent him from further parading himself as its governorship candidate.

According to the documents, the petition to the Nigeria Police Force was received at Force Headquarters, Abuja, on August 24, while the DSS received its copy at 6:39 p.m. the same day.

The APC pledged the cooperation of its national and Ogun State structures with the security agencies in any investigation arising from the petitions.

The development further intensifies the controversy surrounding the APC’s governorship ticket in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 election, with the party insisting that Adeola and Kudirat remain its recognised candidates.
