The All Progressives Congress has denied reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election, describing the claims as untrue, baseless and speculative.
The party stated this in a press release issued on Monday and shared on its official X handle. The statement was signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON.
Reacting to what it described as a growing media frenzy, the APC faulted the circulation of names of alleged replacements for the vice president, insisting that no such discussion exists within the party.
“Our Party states in categorical terms that the stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” the statement read.
The ruling party warned media organisations against amplifying what it called rumours from mischievous sources, noting that such reports were capable of creating unnecessary tension and confusion in the polity.
It further stressed that political activities ahead of the next general election are not yet permitted under existing laws and electoral guidelines, adding that conversations around presidential tickets were premature.
“At this time, our Party remains focused on supporting Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda and entrenching its bold reforms that are steadily transforming the economy, building prosperity and improving the living conditions of Nigerians,” the party stated.
The APC also cautioned its ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against making comments that could fuel speculation about the 2027 elections.
“We call on our ministers, senior government and Party officials to avoid, wittingly or unwittingly, stoking needless speculations, and to focus on their primary duty of diligent service to government and our Party,” the statement added.
