A political group, Sustainability of Ogun State and Dapo Abiodun Legacy Beyond 2027, has accused former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, of allegedly sponsoring media attacks against Governor Dapo Abiodun ahead of the 2027 political permutations in the state.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Convener of the group, Dr Arabambi Abayomi, who claimed that recent articles critical of the governor were orchestrated by political loyalists of the former governor.

Abayomi alleged that Daniel had resorted to using “faceless writers and keyboard warriors” to discredit Abiodun over what he described as the governor’s growing political influence and achievements in Ogun State.

He said, “Instead of accepting that his moment in the sun has passed, Senator Daniel has decided to fight dirty by hiding behind sponsored writers and social media mercenaries to attack a governor who is actually performing.

“The pattern is obvious. Anytime a political development does not favour him, multiple articles suddenly appear recycling the same allegations and talking points against Governor Abiodun.”

The group dismissed allegations of financial misconduct levelled against the governor, particularly claims relating to the alleged diversion of N17bn belonging to local governments in the state.

According to Abayomi, the allegations were previously raised by a former chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo, but had since been discredited.

He explained that the state government had, in fact, supported local councils financially when federal allocations were insufficient to cover salary obligations.

“Between 2019 and 2022, allocations to local governments dropped drastically and could not even pay salaries. Governor Abiodun augmented the shortfall to the tune of N17bn.

“That was not diversion of funds. It was intervention to ensure workers at the grassroots were paid,” he stated.

The group also faulted attempts to revive allegations surrounding an alleged 1986 arrest involving the governor in the United States, insisting that Abiodun had been cleared by relevant authorities and courts before contesting elections.

“If there was any legal issue regarding Governor Abiodun’s eligibility, the opposition would have pursued it successfully long ago. He has contested and won elections lawfully,” Abayomi added.

Highlighting some of the governor’s achievements, the group cited the recent international operations at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, where Ogun pilgrims were airlifted directly to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj.

Abayomi described the development as a landmark achievement that had placed Ogun State on the international aviation map.

“On May 3, 2026, Ogun State witnessed its first international passenger flight from Gateway International Airport to Saudi Arabia. That is a historic achievement.

“It means jobs, investment and revenue opportunities for the state. These are the kinds of achievements critics cannot erase with propaganda,” he said.

The group further commended Abiodun for infrastructural development, industrial growth and maintaining political stability in the state, saying Ogun had witnessed “unprecedented peace and development” under the current administration.

Abayomi urged members of the All Progressives Congress and residents of the state not to be swayed by what he termed “sponsored propaganda,” insisting that the governor’s performance remained visible across the state.

“The people of Ogun State can see the projects, the roads, the industries and the airport developments. Facts will always stand taller than political bitterness,” he said.
