Leaders, delegates, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun East Senatorial District on Tuesday formally endorsed Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the consensus candidate of the zone for the 2027 senatorial election.

The endorsement, according to party leaders, was aimed at ensuring quality representation for the district at the National Assembly and strengthening unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event was attended by top APC chieftains, including the party’s consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun, and Gbenga Kaka, as well as other stakeholders across the senatorial district.

Also present were the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, Deputy Chairman, Chief James Dina, Chairman of Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Lekan Mustapha, and the Chairman of APC in Ogun East Zone, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin.

Speaking during the gathering, former Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun said members of the party across Ogun East unanimously agreed to adopt Abiodun as the consensus candidate for the senatorial seat.

Adesegun noted that the decision reflected the confidence of party members in the governor’s leadership capacity and political experience.

On his part, Senator Lekan Mustapha disclosed that the endorsement followed an earlier stakeholders’ meeting held on April 20, during which leaders of the district unanimously adopted the governor as the preferred candidate of the party.

He explained that Tuesday’s meeting was organised to formally communicate the decision of the district to the governor and the state leadership of the APC.

In his remarks, the Chairman of APC in Ogun East, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin, formally presented Abiodun to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, urging the party leadership to forward his name to the national secretariat of the APC as the party’s flag bearer for Ogun East Senatorial District.

Responding, Abiodun expressed appreciation to leaders, stakeholders, and delegates of the district for the confidence reposed in him.

The governor described the consensus arrangement as a reflection of political maturity, unity, and collective commitment to the development of Ogun East and the state at large.

He pledged not to disappoint the people of the district if elected to represent them at the Senate, assuring them of purposeful and quality representation capable of attracting more democratic dividends to the area.

Abiodun also commended President Bola Tinubu for the support extended to Ogun State since the commencement of his administration, while appreciating party leaders in Ogun East for prioritising unity and cohesion within the APC.

He further assured party faithful that he would continue to work with stakeholders across the district to sustain the developmental strides already recorded in the state.
