Popular Ibadan-based broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has declared that he is confident of victory if he decides to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

Hamzat made this known during a live broadcast in response to a caller from abroad who tried to dissuade him from running for office.

The caller argued that despite Hamzat’s influence and public goodwill, electoral support was not guaranteed.

“Don’t listen to those who are saying Oyo is calling Oriyomi Hamzat. They are only lying. Although you are helping the masses, don’t rely on them that when it is election time, they will vote for you. They will not,” the caller warned.

The caller went further to say that even the area where Hamzat’s radio station is located could reject him at the polls if politicians share money in the area. “It is true that you are a good person and qualified, but the masses will not vote for you,” he added.

Reacting sharply, Hamzat rejected the warning and affirmed that he alone would decide his political direction. He insisted that such discouraging words would not sway him.

“Don’t say they will not vote for me. You might even be the one that will push me to contest,” he fired back. “I have my own brain. I don’t want to listen to any advice like this again. If I contest, nothing will happen. I will contest, and I will win. Don’t tell me that.”

He also dismissed the idea that one can predict electoral outcomes based on past experiences. “You are telling me I won’t win — what is the meaning of that? Do you know the minds of those people that will vote? You are using yesterday to judge today,” he added.

In a further show of defiance, Hamzat said: “If Oriyomi Hamzat contests for the governorship election in Oyo State today, he will win. Don’t compare me with anybody. Stop advising me like that. If you advise me and I listen, I still know what I’m going to do; and if I don’t listen, I still know what to do. If you advise someone and they don’t listen, that doesn’t make the person your enemy.”

His reaction comes amid growing speculations about his political ambition, especially with campaign posters carrying his image and the slogan “2027 Oyo n pe o” (Oyo is calling you) appearing in various parts of Ibadan.
