President Tinubu on Thursday held separate meetings with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid ongoing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde and Mutfwang arrived at the State House at different times in the afternoon.
Sources within the Villa confirmed that the meetings were held separately and were described as part of the President’s continued engagement with political leaders across party lines.
Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, remains one of the few opposition governors yet to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He has also been widely mentioned within political circles as a possible contender for the PDP presidential ticket in 2027, a development that has continued to draw national attention to his political movements.
Mutfwang, on the other hand, recently defected from the PDP to the APC, a move that placed him among a growing list of governors and senior politicians aligning with the ruling party. Thursday’s visit marked his first known meeting with Tinubu since his defection.
Although details of the discussions were not officially disclosed, political observers believe the meetings are connected to broader realignments and behind the scenes consultations as parties and key actors position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
