Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, has appealed to voters in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, to support his ambition, expressing confidence that he would secure at least 60,000 votes from the district in the forthcoming governorship election.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, made the appeal at a programme organised by Ilaro Parapo for Yayi, with the theme, “Unity, Development and Political Future of Ilaro District,” which attracted thousands of indigenes from Ilaro and other communities in the district.
The senator, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, described Ilaro as a town undergoing significant transformation, attributing the development to infrastructure projects he had facilitated in roads, healthcare, education, security and electricity.
He said the progress recorded in the town reflected his commitment to fulfilling a promise he made at the beginning of his senatorial mandate to transform Ilaro and its environs into a “small London”.
“I made a promise to turn Ilaro and environs to ‘small London’, and I have worked seriously towards it in the areas of infrastructural development that I facilitated to the town.
“I also facilitated the making of the town to a university town through the enactment of the law that upgraded Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to Federal University of Technology, Ilaro,” he said.
Adeola urged residents to vote for him and other APC candidates, arguing that their support would translate into further development for the district and the state.
He expressed the expectation that Ilaro District in Yewa South would deliver more than 60,000 votes for his candidacy.
In his welcome address, Omoba Segun Adewale, popularly known as OSA, described Adeola as a bona fide indigene of Ilaro and expressed confidence in the town’s ability to mobilise substantial electoral support for him.
Adewale said the district was targeting 100 per cent of the votes from the 80,000 registered voters who had collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He attributed the support for Adeola to his record of facilitating projects and the agitation to end what he described as five decades of political injustice against Ogun West, which has yet to produce a governor of the state.
He, however, maintained that Adeola’s ambition extended beyond the development of Ilaro and Ogun West, noting that other senatorial districts in Ogun State had also begun to benefit from his interventions.
“However, voting for Senator Adeola Yayi is not only for projects and development in Ilaro and Ogun West but for all Ogun State, as he has started work in other senatorial districts of the state,” he said.
Three academics from Ilaro, Professors Tope Popoola and Taiwo Edun, and Dr Mukhail Akinde, delivered papers on the theme of the event, calling for unity among the people and widespread support for Adeola.
Dignitaries at the programme included the Minister of State for Health and Social Services, Dr Kunle Salako; a former Ogun State legislator, Hon. Muftau Ajibola; the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Latefat Ajayi; Engr. Tommy Akintomide; Chief Mrs Iyabo Apampa; and the APC senatorial candidate for Ogun West, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele, among others.
