Women members of the Youth Party in Ogun State have commenced grassroots mobilisation across Ogun Central Senatorial District as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The women took their campaign to the streets of Abeokuta on Wednesday, engaging residents and canvassing support for the party ahead of the elections.
The exercise, described by party officials as the first Women’s Soloja in Ogun Central, attracted a large turnout of female members who moved through communities, interacting with residents and discussing the party’s political agenda.
The mobilisation forms part of efforts by the Youth Party to strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 elections. The party has selected Olagoke Kuye as its senatorial candidate for Ogun Central. Recent reports also identify Kuye as the party’s candidate for the district and outline his proposed focus on youth development, employment and economic empowerment.
Speaking during the exercise, the Ogun State Chairman of the Youth Party, Olamide Okunowo, said women remained an important component of the party’s grassroots strategy.
Okunowo said the mobilisation was aimed at taking the party’s message directly to residents while creating opportunities for members to interact with communities and understand issues affecting them.
“Women constitute an important part of the political process, and their participation cannot be limited to election day. We want our women to be actively involved in engaging communities, discussing issues that affect the people and contributing to the political direction of the state,” she said.
She added that the party would continue to strengthen its grassroots structures across Ogun State as the 2027 elections draw closer.
“We are building from the grassroots. Our focus is on reaching the people, listening to them and ensuring that our members are properly organised across the communities. This mobilisation is only one part of the work ahead,” Okunowo said.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Olayinka Nifesimi, who announced the mobilisation, said the turnout reflected the willingness of the party’s women members to participate actively in its political activities.
Nifesimi said the women were prepared to sustain their engagement with residents and participate in the party’s campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our women came out in large numbers for the first Women’s Soloja in Ogun Central. Their participation shows their readiness to be part of the political process and the activities of the Youth Party as we prepare for 2027,” she said.
He added that the women’s group would sustain its political canvassing and community engagement as the party works to expand its presence across Ogun Central.
