At least 30 people have lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Ore-Lagos highway in Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2025, at Onipetsi, in the Odigbo Local Government Area.
The accident involved a head-on collision between two commercial buses, which subsequently burst into flames.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, 28 of the victims were burned beyond recognition, while two others died from injuries sustained while being transported to the hospital. Two survivors are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
FRSC Commander for Ondo State, Samuel Ibitoye, disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated that one of the vehicles involved in the crash was driving against traffic.
He assured that further investigation would be carried out to uncover more details surrounding the incident.
“This is a sad and painful incident. We will continue to investigate the cause and provide further details,” Ibitoye stated.
