The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, on Thursday arrived at the Assembly Complex in a dramatic fashion, accompanied by a heavily armed security team.
Obasa, who was removed from office in a controversial impeachment, made his way straight into the Speaker’s Office despite the presence of rival political forces within the Assembly.
His arrival coincided with reports that security operatives assigned to the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, had been withdrawn.
According to eyewitnesses, the embattled former Speaker came in with no fewer than 11 police officers, raising concerns about the unfolding power struggle within the Assembly.
Details surrounding his return remain unclear, but political analysts suggest it may be an attempt to reclaim his position following growing speculation about his possible reinstatement.
Meanwhile, the security situation at the Lagos Assembly Complex has become tense, with legislative activities appearing to take a backseat amid the leadership tussle.
