The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that Mirabel, the TikTok user whose sexual assault allegation sparked widespread reactions across social media, has been discharged from the hospital but is still with the police as investigations continue.
The update was made known by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, during an interview with News Central Television on Friday.
Babaseyi explained that when Mirabel presented herself at the police station, officers discovered she was not in a stable condition to give a clear account of events. According to her, the Divisional Police Officer immediately arranged medical attention.
“And the DPO was trying to debrief her to get facts of the case, but we found out that she wasn’t that coherent at that point in time, so he had to promptly take her to the hospital, a state hospital, for attention,” she said.
The police spokesperson noted that the command acted in good faith based on the seriousness of the allegations shared in Mirabel’s viral TikTok posts and circulating messages on X.
“As you know, already, she is somebody, a victim of sexual assault as we presumed, as it was allegedly stated from her post on TikTok and the posts that were going viral on X. We acted in good faith. The DPO did everything professionally within his power to make her get medical attention, prompt medical attention. She was admitted into the ICU,” Babaseyi stated.
She stressed that Mirabel was never arrested, contrary to rumours that spread online, adding that her welfare remained a priority.
“As a presumed victim of sexual assault, what should we do? She had her freedom to communicate with who she wanted to communicate with,” she said.
Providing further clarification, Babaseyi disclosed that Mirabel has now been discharged from the hospital and is currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
“She has been happily discharged from the hospital and as we speak now, she’s with us for us to further the investigation and to get to the logical conclusions of whether those allegations were true or not,” she added.
The controversy began after Mirabel, known on TikTok as @mirab351, posted a distressing video alleging that she was sexually assaulted in her apartment by an unidentified individual who allegedly broke in and later sent threatening messages.
The video generated outrage online, with many Nigerians demanding swift action. Initial reactions linked the alleged incident to Lagos State, prompting responses from Lagos based agencies. However, preliminary findings later indicated that the incident occurred in Ogijo, Ogun State, placing the matter under the jurisdiction of the Ogun State Police Command.
The command has urged members of the public to rely on verified information and refrain from spreading unconfirmed claims, assuring that the matter is being handled professionally.
