A student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Mr. David, has initiated a N15,000,000 lawsuit against a colleague over allegations of false rape accusations and cyberstalking.
According to a letter from his legal representatives, the defendant allegedly accused Mr. David of rape on or around February 17 and shared his phone number on social media, particularly WhatsApp.
The law firm claims the actions portrayed their client as a rapist without factual basis, exposed him to public hatred, ridicule, and threats, and caused him to lose business contracts and opportunities.
The letter describes the alleged conduct as injurious falsehood, cyberstalking, and misuse of personal data. It notes that while the defendant previously issued a video apology, it was insufficient to repair the “substantial and continuing” damage caused.
The legal team has given the defendant 14 days to meet four demands: pay N15,000,000 in compensation for defamation, emotional distress, and loss of business; issue a written apology and full retraction on all platforms where the allegations were published; delete all defamatory content; and provide a written undertaking to cease further defamatory statements.
The firm warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period will result in court action seeking aggravated damages, injunctive relief, and legal costs.
