Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commissioned the 5.2-kilometre Iworo–Ogbogbo–Igbeba Road in Ijebu North-East Local Government Area, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and connectivity across Ijebuland.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Abiodun said the project, which links Ijebu North-East to Ijebu-Ode, provides crucial access to farmlands and enhances transportation for residents and traders.
He described the road as a continuation of the Igbeba Road in Ijebu-Ode, commissioned last year, and pledged the construction of two additional roads in the local government area before the end of the year.
“I want to promise you that between now and the end of the year, I will construct two more roads in this local government. Let me assure you that the Central Mosque–Ilese to Benin–Sagamu Expressway, for which you have made a case, will be prioritised,” he said.
Governor Abiodun noted that the previously deplorable state of roads in Ijebu-Ode had discouraged commercial transport operators, but the improved infrastructure has attracted companies willing to provide taxi services across Ijebuland. He described the project as part of “our own infrastructural emancipation of the entire Ijebuland.”
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, explained that the reconstructed road features reinforced concrete drainage designed for durability.
He added that the project would significantly improve connectivity across the axis and boost economic activities in the area.
The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, said the road reflects the government’s commitment to unprecedented development across the state, noting that residents would not forget the gesture.
Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, member representing Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ijebu North-East Federal Constituency, praised the administration’s infrastructural drive, stressing that the constituency had benefited significantly and pledging continued support for the governor.
Traditional rulers also welcomed the project. The Ilese of Ilese Kingdom, Oba Oluremi Obayomi, described the road as a key development, urging the reconstruction of the Central Mosque–Ilese to Benin–Sagamu Expressway. Similarly, the Oniworo of Iworo, Oba Asebisi Onafunwa, said the project demonstrated the governor’s commitment to grassroots development and called for the installation of solar-powered streetlights to improve security.
Governor Abiodun further appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an enabling environment that allows states to embark on impactful projects, affirming that his administration would continue to respond to critics with visible and measurable developmental strides.
