Residents of Onipanu area in Ota were thrown into panic following a fire outbreak involving a petrol tanker at an MRS filling station along Obasanjo Farm Road.
The incident, which sparked fears of a possible explosion and widespread destruction, was however swiftly brought under control by emergency responders.
The Ogun State Government made the development known in an official statement shared online, assuring members of the public that the situation had been successfully contained.
According to the government, operatives of the Ogun State Fire Service arrived promptly at the scene and acted decisively to prevent the inferno from spreading to adjoining buildings and nearby properties.
“Our emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene and acted swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures and nearby properties. Through their coordinated efforts, the situation was brought under control without further escalation,” the statement read.
The government commended the professionalism and bravery of the Ogun State Fire Service and other first responders who worked tirelessly to avert what could have turned into a major disaster in the busy commercial area.
Residents were advised to remain calm and cooperate with relevant authorities as post incident assessments continue.
