The Federal Government has announced a temporary diversion of traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to enable repair works on the Kara Bridge.
The Federal Ministry of Works issued the advisory ahead of the planned replacement of damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge located on the outbound Lagos section of the busy highway.
In a statement signed by the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, the ministry said the maintenance work would commence on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and is expected to last for two weeks, ending on March 24, 2026.
Motorists were advised to make use of alternative routes during the period to ease traffic pressure around the construction zone.
Drivers travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu and Ibadan were advised to pass through Shimawa or Mosinmi, while motorists leaving Lagos Island were urged to use the Epe corridor through Ijebu Ode to connect Sagamu, Ibadan or Mowe.
The ministry cautioned that a shorter route might not necessarily be the fastest, urging road users to plan their journeys early, obey traffic management directives and drive carefully around the repair area.
“The Federal Ministry of Works regrets any inconvenience this temporary partial closure may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the motoring public as the Ministry continues its efforts to ensure the safety, durability and stability of the nation’s road infrastructure,” the statement said.
The ministry had earlier announced a six-week partial closure of sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to carry out urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge and Arepo-Punch Bridge.
According to the Ogun State Federal Controller of Works, Michael Komolafe, the repairs became necessary after the expansion joints on the bridges deteriorated significantly, creating safety concerns and contributing to road crashes.
He apologised to motorists for the inconvenience and assured that improved traffic management measures would be put in place to ensure smooth movement and durable repairs.
