President Bola Tinubu is set to visit Ogun State on Friday for the commissioning and inspection of key infrastructure projects, including the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, and the launch of a state-backed airline initiative.
The visit, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor, Kayode Akinmade, will feature a series of high-profile events aimed at showcasing the state’s investment in infrastructure, transportation, security and agriculture.
At the centre of the visit is the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, described as a strategic project expected to position Ogun as a major aviation and logistics hub in the country.
Akinmade stated that the President would also commission two aircraft acquired under Gateway Air, a state aviation initiative in partnership with ValueJet.
“The President will commission the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, alongside two newly acquired aircraft under Gateway Air, marking a significant milestone in the state’s aviation development plan,” the statement read.
He added that Tinubu would witness a cargo operations demonstration facilitated by the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc, indicating the readiness of the airport for logistics and freight services.
The presidential visit will also include the commissioning of other assets within the airport complex, such as 1,000 electric bikes introduced under the state’s mobility scheme, 80 security vehicles to strengthen internal security, and agricultural tractors aimed at supporting farmers and boosting food production.
Beyond the airport, the President is expected to commission the Ilishan–Iperu Airport Road to improve access to the facility and surrounding communities.
He will also inspect the Nigeria Customs Service Village and commission the Forward Operating Base, a development targeted at enhancing border security and trade operations.
Akinmade further disclosed that the President would inspect and commission the Gateway Aviation Village, designed to support the growing aviation ecosystem in the state.
In addition, Tinubu will commission the reconstructed Sapade–Ilishan Road, also known as the Old Ibadan Road, which has been renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway.
“The reconstruction of the Sapade–Ilishan Road, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway, is expected to boost connectivity and economic activities across the axis,” Akinmade said.
The President is also scheduled to inspect the ongoing Sagamu–Benin Concrete Road project, a major federal road expected to improve transportation along the corridor.
The Ogun State Government said the projects reflect its commitment to economic growth, improved service delivery and infrastructural development.
It added that the visit would further strengthen collaboration between the Federal Government and the state in driving sustainable development.
