In a move to prevent unrest and ensure stability in Ogun State, the State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Justice and Public Petitions, has directed all parties involved in the chieftaincy dispute over the Baale stool of Abese Town, Ewekoro Local Government Area, to maintain the status quo.

The directive was issued by the committee chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Oluseun Adesanya, during a mediation meeting at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Chief Musiliu Awofe Adebolajo and Chief Olawole Babayemi Aikulola.

Emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law, Adesanya stated that the Assembly would be guided by existing laws regulating the appointment and conduct of traditional rulers and chiefs in the state.

“We urge all parties to strictly adhere to the regulations governing chieftaincy affairs and maintain the status quo while we engage relevant stakeholders for further deliberations,” Adesanya said.

Other lawmakers present at the meeting, including Honourables Dickson Awolaja, Babatunde Tella, Musefiu Lamidi, Fola Salami, Ademola Adeniran, and Waliu Owode, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to a thorough and impartial review of the matter.

As part of its fact-finding mission, the Assembly plans to invite additional stakeholders, including the prescribed authority overseeing chieftaincy matters in the domain, to verify the legitimacy of claims made by the contesting parties.
