The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old butcher, Selim Ayodele, over the alleged stabbing to death of his 26-year-old colleague, Ibrahim Wasiu, following a disagreement at their workplace in Alagbole, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 18, 2026, after the two men had completed their day’s work at a cow meat-selling outlet.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident was reported at Ajuwon Police Station at about 8pm, prompting police operatives to respond.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the disagreement between the two colleagues allegedly arose over who should sweep the floor at their workplace.
During the altercation, Ayodele allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed Wasiu in the left side of his chest before twisting the weapon, the police said.
The victim was subsequently rushed to Life Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
His remains were deposited at Life Channel Private Mortuary, Lanbe, Ajuwon, for an autopsy.
The police said the suspect was in custody as investigations continued ahead of his prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to prompt response to criminal incidents, thorough investigations and the lawful prosecution of offenders.
Ojajuni urged residents to exercise restraint and resolve disagreements peacefully, while encouraging members of the public to report criminal incidents promptly to the appropriate authorities.
