The Ogun State Government has assured that a thorough structural integrity test will be conducted on the collapsed building at Mayigi Community Comprehensive School, Ilase, in Ipokia Local Government Area before any further use.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, stated this during an on-site inspection of the affected structure.

He emphasized that the building would remain closed until the integrity test is completed. “We will ensure that this building is not used until we ascertain its structural stability. If found satisfactory, necessary repairs, including reroofing, will be carried out to make it safe for the pupils,” he said.

The incident, which occurred due to a rainstorm, led to the tragic death of a 14-year-old pupil while five others—including two teachers, a school food vendor, and her seven-month-old child—sustained injuries.

Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preventing similar tragedies, directing the Zonal Education Officer to inspect schools in the community for abandoned or weak structures that could endanger students.

“This government is determined to ensure the safety of all pupils. We will take necessary steps to prevent future occurrences by assessing and addressing the condition of school infrastructures across the state,” the governor added.

During his visit to the General Hospital, Ipokia, where the injured victims are receiving treatment, Abiodun assured them of the government’s support.

He also visited the grieving family of the deceased pupil to offer condolences and pledged assistance. “We share in your pain. This is a devastating loss, and the government will stand by you in this difficult time,” he expressed.

Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Mr. Moses Amosun appreciated the government’s concern, noting that while the loss was painful, the visit reassured them that they were not alone.

The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu; Member representing Ipokia in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Oyedele; Permanent Secretaries from the Ministry of Education and the Teaching Service Commission; Principal General, Yewa Block; Chairman, Ipokia Local Government; and the Alase of Ilase, HRM John Adewale Olaifa, among other officials.
