Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has described Islam as more than a personal faith, emphasizing its role as a guiding light in shaping families, communities, and society at large.

Speaking during her annual Ramadan Tafsir for Women Organizations in the state, the third edition in the series, she highlighted the significance of unity, sisterhood, and knowledge in strengthening the Islamic faith among women.

“Islam is not just a source of personal strength; it is our guiding light in times of trials and uncertainties. The ability to support one another, stand firm in our beliefs, and remain steadfast in our duties is what truly defines us as Muslim women,” she stated.

Salako-Oyedele charged women to take inspiration from the lessons of Ramadan and apply them in their daily lives, nurturing their families with love, raising children with strong Islamic values, and making meaningful contributions to society.

“As women, we have a duty to be positive role models for Islam. Our commitment to the deen, our devotion to learning, and our ability to inspire the next generation should remain unwavering. Leadership is not just about holding positions but about shaping policies, influencing positive change, and mentoring young Muslim women to rise with confidence and purpose,” she added.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adeleye Adijat, praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for appointing a capable and intelligent woman as Deputy Governor. She called on women to further their education and participate actively in politics to enhance their chances of securing leadership positions.

“Women must acquire more certificates and take an active interest in governance. We must break barriers and ensure we are not left behind when it comes to political appointments,” she urged.

In separate remarks, Ogun State Deputy Speaker, Hon. Lateefat Ajayi, and Hon. Justice Safrat Bello commended the Deputy Governor for using the Ramadan period to unite women in faith and learning. They, however, expressed concern over the marginalization of women in governance.

“We need more women in decision-making positions. It is not just about education; it is about ensuring that women are given their rightful place in leadership,” they noted, urging Muslim mothers to instill both academic and Islamic values in their children.

Delivering a lecture on “The Significance of Ramadan and Its Last Ten Days,” Alhaji Imam Daud Sanusi emphasized that fasting was ordained by God to instill discipline and righteousness.

“Ramadan is a month of spiritual purification. It was in this sacred month that the Quran was established. Fasting is not a burden; rather, it helps in physical well-being, strengthens memory, controls anger, and can even extend human lifespan,” he explained.

He also debunked misconceptions about Ramadan, stating, “Some people claim they were not eating well even before Ramadan, but the essence of fasting is obedience to Allah, not about food.”

Contributing to the discussion, the Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Alhaja (Chief) Mrs. Yemisi Abass, stressed the need for women to assert themselves in leadership and governance.

“Women must develop interest in politics, gain relevance, and remain spiritually connected to God for guidance,” she advised.

Representatives of Muslim women societies at the event expressed appreciation to Deputy Governor Salako-Oyedele for her commitment to organizing the annual Ramadan Tafsir, praying for Allah’s continued strength and blessings upon her.
