The Ogun State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Industry, Trade, and Investment, has re-invited six quarry companies to appear before it following a petition by the State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Mine Workers.
The petition raises concerns about workers’ welfare, peaceful coexistence, and consumer protection.
The affected companies include Andy CNC Quarry and Max Sanxin Quarry in Ijebu-Ode, as well as Sino Trust/Multiverse Quarry and Huaya Quarry in Imosan.
The management teams have been directed to appear before the committee on Thursday, 3rd April 2025, at 2:00 pm for further discussions on the matter.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Adebisi Oyedele, issued the invitation after a session where only two of the six quarry firms honored the initial summons. He cautioned the remaining firms that failure to attend could result in legal action.
“The House will not hesitate to invoke Section 129 of the Nigerian Constitution to issue a warrant compelling their attendance,” Hon. Oyedele warned.
While acknowledging that mining activities fall under the Exclusive List of the Constitution, Oyedele emphasized that the Assembly had a responsibility to address concerns related to welfare, labor rights, and consumer protection.
He commended the two companies that attended the session, affirming the Assembly’s commitment to upholding its quasi-judicial function in ensuring industrial peace across the state.
