The Ogun State House of Assembly has confirmed the nominations of members into statutory commissions as earlier screened, declaring them qualified and fit for office in line with Section 198 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The confirmation followed the presentation of the report by the Committee of the Whole House, chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide. The report was laid before the House by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, who moved for its adoption.

The Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, seconded the motion, and the entire House supported it with a unanimous voice vote.

Following the adoption, the Majority Leader, Hon. Yusuf Sheriff, moved the motion for the report to be adopted as a resolution of the House. This was again seconded by the Minority Leader and endorsed by all members present.

Speaker Elemide directed that the resolution confirming the nominees be transmitted to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for appropriate action.

“The House has fulfilled its constitutional duty by scrutinizing and confirming these nominees. We trust they will serve the people of Ogun State diligently,” Elemide stated.

Meanwhile, the Assembly observed a minute of silence in honour of two notable indigenes of the State: the late Ambassador Tunde Oladunjoye, a former Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Hon. James Bankole, a former lawmaker who represented Yewa North 1 State Constituency from 1999.

Hon. Waliu Owode (Ijebu-East) and Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju (Yewa North 1) formally announced the deaths on the floor of the House.

“Oladunjoye was not just a party man; he was a voice for progressive ideals in Ogun State,” Owode said.

In his tribute, Adeyanju described Bankole as “a father figure and a legislative icon who served with distinction during his time in the Assembly.”

Bankole passed away on March 26, 2025, at the age of 84.
