The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Alumni Association has hailed Ogun State as a state of firsts, acknowledging its significant contributions to the institute’s establishment and leadership.

This was revealed by the National President of the Alumni Association, Ambassador Emmanuel Obi-Okafor, during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Deputy Governor’s office.

“Ogun State is a beacon of excellence in policy development,” said Ambassador Obi-Okafor. “Not only did it produce the first Director-General of NIPSS, but it is also home to the current Director-General. The idea of concretizing NIPSS in 1978 was also initiated by an Ogun indigene, making the state integral to the institute’s history and vision.”

He continued, “NIPSS was envisioned as a center for policy research, reflection, and dialogue, designed to produce top-tier technocrats capable of implementing innovative policies. It serves as a platform for research, training, advocacy, publishing, and hosting conferences aimed at developing Nigeria’s human capital.”

Ambassador Obi-Okafor also applauded the current Ogun State administration for transforming the state into a prime destination for investors and tourists. He expressed pride in the state’s newly inaugurated NIPSS Alumni chapter, noting that it consists of experts from diverse fields who are contributing significantly to the state’s development.

In her response, Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, warmly welcomed the alumni delegation, expressing her admiration for NIPSS’s role in fostering human capacity development across Nigeria.

“It is with great pride that we receive this distinguished team.”

“The institute has significantly enhanced Nigeria’s human resource development, and Ogun State remains committed to ensuring that it continues to lead in this area,” she said.

She emphasized the administration’s commitment to maintaining Ogun’s status as a state of many firsts, noting that only the most accomplished individuals are selected for the prestigious NIPSS course.

“The caliber of MNI’s (Members of NIPSS) from Ogun State speaks volumes about the excellence we strive for in every sector.”

Engr. Salako-Oyedele also advocated for a greater focus on gender balance in the selection process of NIPSS participants.

“There is no such thing as too many women in policy-making. Everyone’s perspective is crucial, especially as we work toward a more balanced approach in decision-making processes.”

She concluded by assuring the alumni that the Ogun State Government would continue to support the institute and provide the necessary training for its personnel.

“We are committed to strengthening NIPSS’s impact, ensuring that our personnel are equipped with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.”
