The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, has announced that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government will fully automate their operations by December 31, 2025.

This move is part of the ongoing digitalisation efforts under the current administration aimed at building a 21st-century public service infrastructure.

Speaking during a world press conference in Abuja, Walson-Jack said, “By December 31, the Nigerian civil service will go completely paperless. This is not just a cost-saving measure but also a strategic step toward positioning the service as world-class and forward-thinking.”

She revealed that before she assumed office, the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation had already transitioned to a paperless system. She added that the Federal Ministry of Health recently became the 11th MDA to complete the switch to full digital operations.

Walson-Jack also announced that Nigeria will be hosting its maiden International Civil Service Conference (ICSC) in Abuja from June 25 to 26, 2025. The event is expected to draw over 5,000 participants and delegates from across Africa and beyond.

According to her, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted to declare the conference open, with keynote speeches lined up from both international and local reformers.

The conference will feature strategic panel discussions and interactive roundtables.

“The international conference is a major highlight of this year’s Civil Service Week and Africa Public Service Day, which will run from Friday, June 20 to Saturday, June 28,” she said.

With the theme “Rejuvenate, Innovate and Accelerate,” the conference is designed to attract reformers, public service leaders and stakeholders from across the continent and the global community.

“Hosting the ICSC directly expresses Nigeria’s commitment to the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25), built around Capability Building, Performance Management, and Digitalisation,” Walson-Jack explained.

She stressed that this initiative also aligns with the 2021 Public Service Rules, adding that “by hosting this Conference, Nigeria reaffirms its leadership in shaping Africa’s accountable, innovative, and citizen-responsive public service ecosystem.”

Speaking on the activities lined up for the 2025 Civil Service Week, she described them as spiritually uplifting, intellectually engaging and socially rewarding. These activities are designed to celebrate excellence, deepen reform dialogues and foster unity within the civil service community.

Some key activities include the commissioning of a remodeled reception at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, a special Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque, a thanksgiving service at the Family Worship Centre in Wuye, Abuja, a social gathering for civil servants, an award and recognition ceremony, and a study tour of Abuja by Heads of Civil Service from various states.

According to Walson-Jack, hosting this international event and the planned week-long celebration reflect Nigeria’s renewed drive for institutional reform, human capital development, and the transition toward a modern civil service that serves the people efficiently and equitably.

“We are not just organising ceremonies. These activities reflect our deep commitment to building a public service that delivers results and earns the trust of the Nigerian people,” she concluded.
