The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Remo Federal Constituency by-election, Bolarinwa Oluwole, has raised alarm over violence and intimidation during Saturday’s exercise, alleging that thugs loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) disrupted the process.
Oluwole, who spoke after casting his ballot at Ijagba Ward 7, Polling Unit 9, said his supporters were attacked, while one was shot in Ilara.
He recounted how hoodlums, armed with weapons, descended on PDP voters and chased him from the polling area.
“APC thugs chased me away; they had to bring me to one corner. It’s a pity for the governor and all his thugs. Because of a small boy like me, they have been running up and down beating our people. They have really bastardised this. This is not an election,” he lamented.
The PDP candidate accused the APC of undermining democracy, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to come clean on the irregularities.
“If INEC doesn’t tell the truth, I leave everything in God’s hands. God Almighty will judge. The thugs were going about with guns. I want the media to tell the truth because after this, there are other days to live,” he added.
While Oluwole decried the violence, Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed satisfaction with the exercise. After casting his vote, Abiodun said materials arrived early and turnout was impressive.
“So far, everything is so good. Obviously, year in and year out, they are improving on the quality of their services. Basically, everything is going well, no rancour, no fighting,” he said.
