The Super Falcons on Saturday came from behind to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 and lift their 10th Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Rabat.
Despite conceding two early goals from Ghizlane Chebbak in the 13th minute and Sanaa Mssoudy in the 28th, Nigeria’s side showed resilience in the second half.
Their comeback began in the 63rd minute after a handball by Benzina led to a penalty, calmly converted by Okoronkwo. Just eight minutes later, Okoronkwo turned provider, setting up Ijamilusi for the equaliser.
The winner came in the 88th minute through Echegini, who poked home from close range after a deep free kick.
With this victory, the Super Falcons completed their mission, famously dubbed ‘Mission X’ by the Nigeria Football Federation, and reaffirmed their dominance in African women’s football.
