Panic gripped the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese Ijebu, on Friday as a violent clash between rival cult groups disrupted academic activities and left several students injured.
The violent confrontation, which involved members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, broke out during the sign-out celebration of some graduating students, turning what should have been a moment of joy into a scene of chaos.
Eyewitnesses told newsmen that the clash started in the afternoon and quickly escalated, forcing students and staff to flee for safety.
“We were in the middle of our celebration when they started fighting and pulling out weapons. Everyone ran,” a student who spoke under anonymity said.
Though it remains unclear whether any arrests were made, security operatives swiftly intervened to restore calm within the campus and surrounding areas. Their prompt response reportedly prevented further escalation and possible fatalities.
As at the time of filing this report, the school authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
