As part of activities marking the second anniversary of the 10th Ogun State House of Assembly, wives of lawmakers in the State have donated relief items to the Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home in Abeokuta.
The visit, led by the Wife of the Speaker, Dr. (Mrs.) Olayinka Elemide, featured the donation of various household essentials including bags of rice, cartons of noodles, sugar, mattresses, and other food and hygiene items aimed at supporting the welfare of the children at the home.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Elemide said the gesture was part of their tradition of giving back to society in celebration of the legislative milestone.
She noted that similar support was extended to the home the previous year, adding that the wives remain committed to standing by their husbands while also reaching out to the less privileged.
“We do this to thank God for the progress of the State, the unity in the House, and to reaffirm that we stand by our spouses as they serve the people,” she stated.
Dr. Elemide expressed appreciation to the management and staff of the orphanage, as well as the Ministry of Women Affairs, for their unwavering dedication to the children’s well-being. She encouraged the children to remain focused on their future, adding that they are not forgotten.
In her response, Mrs. Adebukola Idowu, Head Aunty at the Home, expressed gratitude for the donation and the consistency of the lawmakers’ wives in showing love and care for the children.
She noted that their presence and support have continued to boost the morale of both the staff and the children.
The outreach is one of several commemorative events lined up by the families of legislators to mark the second year in office of the current Assembly, as they continue to support causes that promote compassion, service, and social impact in the State.
