Manchester City’s troubles continued on Sunday as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Brighton at the Amex Stadium, marking their second successive Premier League loss.
Erling Haaland, making his 100th Premier League appearance, opened the scoring in the first half after latching onto Omar Marmoush’s clever pass. The Norwegian striker had earlier missed two clear chances but made amends with a close-range finish to put Pep Guardiola’s men ahead.
City controlled much of the contest but failed to capitalise on their dominance. Brighton came alive after manager Fabian Hurzeler made four substitutions midway through the second half.
The changes paid off almost immediately when Matheus Nunes was penalised for handball, allowing veteran James Milner to level from the penalty spot.
With momentum shifting, City’s defence looked increasingly vulnerable. Goalkeeper James Trafford kept them in the game with key saves, including a stunning stop to deny Jan Paul van Hecke’s header, but he was powerless in the 89th minute as Brajan Gruda broke through to score the winner for the hosts.
