The updated curriculum aims to equip students with digital, entrepreneurial, and technological skills critical for the 21st century.

The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, shared the full list of subjects on his X handle, posting an image of the curriculum and writing: “The new curriculum for Nigerian Schools, which will commence from the next session in September 2025, has been released.”

At the Junior Secondary School level (JSS 1–3), students will now study compulsory Digital Literacy and Coding, including basics of Python, Scratch, and introductory robotics kits. Entrepreneurship and foundational digital skills are also emphasized alongside traditional subjects such as Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Languages, Creative Arts, and Physical & Health Education.

For Senior Secondary School students (SS 1–3), the curriculum introduces advanced subjects like Artificial Intelligence, programming in Python and JavaScript, HTML/CSS, data science basics, AI & robotics, and digital entrepreneurship. Core sciences, social sciences, languages, creative arts, and physical and health education remain integral parts of the curriculum. Students will also undertake final-year research projects, emphasizing data collection, analysis, and presentation skills.

Education experts say the move positions Nigerian students to compete globally while fostering innovation, creativity, and problem-solving from an early stage.

The Federal Government describes the curriculum as a step toward modernizing education in Nigeria, ensuring students are equipped with skills that reflect global trends and future workforce demands.
