The Ogun State Government has officially announced Premium Trust Bank as the lead sponsor of the 2024 National Sports Festival, popularly known as Gateway Games.

The partnership marks the largest single sponsorship agreement in the history of the festival, reinforcing the critical role of private sector involvement in sports development.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, described the collaboration as a milestone in fostering a sustainable sports economy through public-private partnerships.

“This partnership is a testament to the transformative power of collaboration in sports development. It underscores the significance of private sector involvement in creating a thriving sports industry that benefits not just the athletes but also the economy at large,” Isiaka stated.

He further expressed confidence that the sponsorship would significantly impact the Games and the broader sporting landscape, emphasizing the vital role sports play in shaping individuals, communities, and the nation.

“As we prepare to host this prestigious event, I want to assure you that the Ogun State government, under the visionary leadership of our governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, is fully committed to delivering one of the most remarkable editions of the National Sports Festival,” Isiaka said.

He added, “But our vision goes beyond hosting a successful event. We are determined to establish a dynamic sports industry in Ogun State—one that provides opportunities for athletes to thrive, contributes to economic growth, and fosters community development. With partners like Premium Trust Bank, we are building an ecosystem where talent is nurtured, and dreams become reality.”

Also speaking, the Executive Director of Premium Trust Bank, Mr. Shina Atilola, highlighted the bank’s commitment to elevating the 2024 National Sports Festival and setting new standards for corporate sponsorship in Nigerian sports.

“Our collaboration with the Ogun State Government is not just about funding the festival; we are dedicated to nurturing and supporting athletes discovered during the competition. Through our sponsorship, we will provide them with the necessary resources to excel and attain international recognition,” Atilola assured.

He further noted that the bank would leverage the world-class sporting facilities provided by the state government to identify and groom promising athletes for global competitions.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Olatokunbo Talabi; Chief of Staff to the NSC Director General, Oluwaseyi Johnson; Chairman of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies LOC, Mrs. Modele Sharafa; NSC Director of Press, Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi; and Assistant Director at the National Sports Festival Department, Mr. Oladipupo Idowu, among others.
