The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has made history with the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Corrections Jane Osuji as its new Public Relations Officer, making her the first woman to hold the position since the agency’s inception.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement signed by Deputy Controller General of Corrections Ado Sale, who oversees Human Resources. Osuji assumes the role following the retirement of her predecessor, Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, on November 19, 2025.
Jane Osuji brings a wealth of experience to her new position. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Advertising from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
Her career within the Service has been marked by progressive leadership roles, including serving as Public Relations Officer for the Lagos and FCT Commands, Assistant National Public Relations Officer at NCoS National Headquarters, and Press Secretary to three successive Ministers of Interior between 2015 and 2023.
The Nigerian Correctional Service described Osuji’s appointment as a recognition of her “extensive professional experience” in strategic communication and public engagement, noting that she is well-positioned to enhance the agency’s public interface.
