Leeds United pulled off a stunning 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Elland Road on Wednesday, dealing a serious blow to the Blues’ Premier League title ambitions.
Enzo Maresca’s side dominated from the start, with Jaka Bijol and Ao Tanaka scoring in the first half to put Chelsea on the back foot. Pedro Neto pulled one back after the interval, but Chelsea’s hopes of a comeback were crushed when Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed the win late in the game.
Chelsea, who were already struggling without suspended midfielder Moises Caicedo, have now lost four of their last eight league matches, leaving them nine points behind leaders Arsenal in fourth place.
Manager Maresca had rested several key players including Neto, Reece James, and Wesley Fofana, hoping to refresh his squad after a grueling match against Arsenal. However, Leeds took full advantage of Chelsea’s fatigue, turning the game into a nightmare for the visitors.
Bijol’s early header from an Anton Stach corner set the tone, while Tanaka’s ferocious strike before halftime left Chelsea with an uphill task. Neto’s goal offered temporary hope, but a defensive blunder by Malo Gusto and Tosin Adarabioyo allowed Calvert-Lewin to tap into an empty net and secure Leeds’ historic win.
With this defeat, Chelsea’s title challenge faces serious doubts as Leeds continue their fight to climb out of the relegation zone.
