President Bola Tinubu has praised the Super Eagles for their impressive 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, describing the performance as inspiring and worthy of national pride.
Reacting to the win on Saturday via his official X handle, Tinubu said the players displayed discipline, talent, and determination, adding that Nigerians stand solidly behind the team as they chase continental glory.
“Brilliant performance. Inspiring. Go, Super Eagles. You have the support of all Nigerians,” Tinubu wrote.
Nigeria secured the win through goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, a result that sealed the country’s place in the semi-finals of the tournament. The Super Eagles dominated key phases of the encounter, combining defensive solidity with clinical finishing to outclass the Algerians.
The victory has continued to attract widespread reactions from prominent Nigerians. Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, congratulated the team, praising their composure and commitment on the pitch.
“Clinical finishing, a rock-solid defence, and a rewarding gift to over 200 million people cheering you on,” Obi said in a social media post.
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso also applauded the Super Eagles, describing the result as a well-deserved win that lifted the nation’s spirit and reinforced belief in the team’s ability to go all the way.
With the quarter-final hurdle cleared, Nigeria will now face host nation Morocco in the semi-finals on January 14, 2026.
The encounter is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 pm at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
