The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the state government to immortalize the late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, a former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, by renaming the Court Junction-Simawa Road and some of her projects in her honor.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Damilare Bello, representing Sagamu I State Constituency, and was unanimously supported by all lawmakers.

During deliberations, the legislators described Onanuga as a distinguished daughter of the state whose contributions to governance and community development were immeasurable.

“We have lost a leader whose impact in Ogun State and beyond cannot be overstated. She was passionate about her people, and this resolution is the least we can do to keep her legacy alive,” Hon. Bello stated.

In the same session, the Assembly also honored four other prominent Ogun indigenes who passed away in the last two weeks. The lawmakers highlighted their contributions to commerce, industry, and politics.

Former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo led tributes for Chief Ogooluwa Adio Bankole, an industrialist who established the first paint factory in Ifo Local Government in 1985. “Chief Bankole was a visionary businessman who paved the way for local industrialization,” Oluomo remarked.

Similarly, Minority Leader Hon. Adeleye Lukman paid tribute to Pa Ayo Adebajo, an elder statesman and a founding leader of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). “Pa Adebajo dedicated his life to justice and democracy. His legacy in Nigerian politics will endure,” Lukman said.

Lawmakers also mourned the passing of Oba Adedeji Olusegun Onagoruwa, the Alaye of Odogbolu, and former Senator Solomon Ayodeji Otegbola, who represented Ogun West Senatorial District in the Third Republic.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, led the Assembly in observing a minute of silence for the deceased, noting that their legacies would be remembered for generations.
