Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated the Super Falcons of Nigeria for their breathtaking comeback and historic triumph at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), hailing their courage and team spirit as the true heart of champions.
The Super Falcons stunned host nation Morocco on Saturday night with a dramatic 3–2 victory, coming from two goals down to claim their 10th WAFCON crown and further solidify their status as the most successful women’s football team on the continent.
In a statement personally signed by him, Governor Abiodun described the victory as not just a win on the pitch, but a celebration of resilience, excellence and national pride.
“These women have shown the world what it means to never give up. Their fighting spirit, discipline, and unity carried them through one of the toughest matches in recent history,” Abiodun said.
He praised the players and the coaching crew for what he called a golden moment in Nigeria’s sporting history, adding that the team’s ability to rise above adversity reflects the strength and determination Nigerians are known for.
“The Super Falcons have not only brought joy to millions of Nigerians, they have also written a new chapter that will be remembered for generations. This win is more than football, it is a message of hope to every Nigerian girl dreaming of greatness,” the governor added.
Abiodun also commended the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and other stakeholders for their continued investment in women’s football, saying their support was vital in sustaining such a legacy.
“The Falcons’ victory is a victory for us all. It proves that with proper support, women in sports can break barriers and dominate globally,” he said.
He concluded with a call for increased support for female athletes across the country, noting that the Falcons have once again reminded the world of Nigeria’s strength in unity, talent and unshakable will.
