Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, is dead.
Rufai, fondly called Dodomayana, passed away on Thursday after battling a prolonged illness. He was 61.
The late Rufai is regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest goalkeepers, having enjoyed a career that spanned over two decades across Europe.
During his playing days, Rufai featured for clubs in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. He also represented Nigeria at two FIFA World Cup tournaments and two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.
His death comes on a day the global football community is still mourning Liverpool striker, Diogo Jota, who reportedly died in a car accident in Spain alongside his brother.
The news of Rufai’s passing has left many football lovers and ex-internationals in shock as tributes continue to pour in for the late football legend.
