Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has revealed that the Federal Government has approved the establishment of the Court of Appeal in Abeokuta, the state capital. He assured judicial officers of the government’s full support in ensuring a conducive environment for justice to thrive.
Governor Abiodun made the announcement during a special church thanksgiving to mark the 2025/2026 legal year at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.
He described the approval as a landmark achievement, noting that it would bring justice closer to the people and reduce the heavy caseload currently on the Ibadan Division.
He said, “We have finally received the formal approval for the establishment of the Ogun State division of the Federal Court of Appeal in Abeokuta. This is indeed a landmark achievement of an initiative proudly and aggressively championed by our administration to bring justice closer to our people and to ease the heavy caseload currently on the Ibadan division.”
The governor also emphasized the importance of judicial integrity, impartiality, and courage, urging officers to renew their dedication to a system where justice is accessible to all. “Justice cannot thrive without integrity and courage. We must ensure the scales of justice remain balanced, and every man, woman, and child is protected by the law,” he added.
Highlighting his administration’s commitment to supporting the judiciary, Abiodun said, “Our administration will continue to provide the necessary support and resources to enhance judicial efficiency and uphold the integrity of the legal system in our dear state.”
“We will prioritize the welfare and accommodations of judicial officers, providing housing arrangements and other essential support for judges and staff who may be posted to serve in the Ogun State division of the Court of Appeal.”
The Bishop of Ijebuland South/West Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Babatunde Ogunbanwo, in his sermon, described the judiciary as a powerful arm of government, capable of dethroning or enthroning leaders, and urged judges to always act justly. “Society thrives when justice reigns. While the law must be firm, mercy must guide judgment, for justice without compassion can be cruel,” he said.
Hon. Justice Mosumola Dipeolu, Chief Judge of Ogun State, read a Bible passage from Colossians 3:8-17, underscoring the role of integrity and righteousness in public service.
