Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday officially flagged off the dualisation of the Odo-Ori to Oja Oba Roundabout–Post Office Junction road in Iwo, Osun State, marking a significant step toward infrastructural renewal in the ancient town.

Speaking during the event, Adeleke described the project as “a symbolism of promise kept and a demonstration of fairness and justice” to all towns and villages in the state.

He emphasized that his administration is committed to correcting the marginalisation Iwo suffered in the past.

“Iwo was neglected by previous administrations. Our government is determined to put an end to such criminal neglect,” the Governor said.

The dualisation project, which spans 3.6 kilometres with a spur to the Oluwo Palace, marks the first phase of Adeleke’s plan to modernise Iwo township roads.

The second phase, according to him, will run from Post Office Junction to Adeeke, covering 2.96 kilometres, with procurement already in progress.

“This is a milestone in the history of the ancient town of Iwo. Kabiyesi, finally, ‘Oye to kan ara Ede ti wa kan ara Iwo’. We are walking the talk,” Adeleke declared, receiving cheers from the crowd.

The Governor noted that the new road project follows the completion of several others in Iwo and its environs over the last two years of his administration.

He said the completed projects include the rehabilitation of Ansarudeen Central Mosque Junction to Kuti/Hospital Road, measuring 1.5km; Telemu Junction to Ilemowu–Ogbagba, Phase 1, which spans 2.0km; Feesu to Agbowo Road, which is 1.7km; Best Academy to Jagun Junction, Ajagba Road in Asa, Ola Oluwa Local Government Area, covering 1.9km; Post Office Junction to Oke Ifa–Oke Ibode Junction Road; Amin–Yemoja–Ogunrinde River to Jagun Ode Road with a spur to Osogbo Junction and Palace Junction, which is 1.9km long; and the Olupona Central Mosque Junction to Alaya–Gbongan Road in Olupona, Ayedire Local Government Area, measuring 1.8km.

“I am proud to announce that our administration has completed numerous road projects within Iwo township and her environs,” Adeleke said, adding that more commissioning ceremonies will follow soon.

The Governor appealed to the people of Iwo to continue supporting his government, noting that such transformational projects deserve public backing.

“Politics is about development. Any politicking that imposes poverty and underdevelopment should be rejected. We are the alternative. Iwo cannot afford to go back,” he added.
