Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to rejoin the All Progressives Congress on Monday, following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party last Friday.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano.

According to the statement, the governor’s decision followed wide consultations and careful consideration of prevailing political and governance realities in the country.

It added that Yusuf had resolved to return to the APC as a platform he considers familiar, structured and better positioned to advance development in Kano State.

The statement recalled that Governor Yusuf first joined the APC in 2014, when he won the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat, a ticket he later conceded to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the interest of party unity.

It noted that after years of political engagement across different platforms, including his most recent stint in the NNPP, the need for stronger cooperation with the Federal Government, national cohesion and accelerated development informed his decision to return to the APC.

Governor Yusuf was quoted as saying that rejoining the ruling party would “further strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructural development, enhance security coordination and improve service delivery across Kano State.”

He added that the move would also “consolidate political stability and unity in the state.”

The governor is expected to formally register as a member of the APC in Kano on Monday. He will be joined by 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives and the 44 local government chairmen in the state.

He is also expected to officially launch the APC electronic registration exercise in Kano during the event.
