Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has been officially sworn in as the seventh democratically elected Governor of Ondo State, marking the beginning of a new era in the state’s governance.

Taking his oath of office at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure on Monday, February 24, 2025, Aiyedatiwa outlined his vision for the state, emphasizing security, industrialization, and infrastructural development.

In his inaugural speech, Aiyedatiwa paid tribute to his predecessor, the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a “courageous and personable leader” whose contributions to the state would not be forgotten.

“We must not forget this great leader who literally emptied himself in the service of Ondo State and Nigeria,” he stated, adding that Akeredolu’s “prophetic declaration” had paved the way for his emergence as governor.

Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the massive support received from the people of Ondo State in the November 16, 2024, governorship election, where he and his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, secured victory under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor described the landslide win in all 18 local governments as a “historic act performed in a peaceful, free, fair, credible, and conclusive election.”

Reaffirming his commitment to governance with the “fear of God and utmost dedication to the progress of the state,” Aiyedatiwa unveiled his administration’s new policy thrust, tagged O’DATIWA O’ DIRORUN (“Our Ease”). This seven-point agenda will focus on security, urban renewal, industrialization, healthcare, energy, infrastructure, and education.

“Our administration will prioritize the welfare of our people, particularly the most vulnerable—the poor, the sick, and the marginalized,” he assured.

He further disclosed plans to drive economic growth through the development of Port Ondo and the exploration of the state’s vast bitumen deposits, emphasizing that his government would “work with interested investors and development partners to make this a reality.”

Security remains a top priority for the new administration. Aiyedatiwa pledged to enhance intelligence gathering, strengthen security agencies, and bolster community policing. “We will consolidate on our enviable record as one of the safest and most secure states in Nigeria,” he said.

On infrastructure, he promised the timely completion of ongoing projects, while assuring that his administration would transform Ondo into a major tourism and industrial hub.

“We shall create an enabling environment that supports the growth of the tourism sector while ensuring our infrastructural development is environmentally friendly, sustainable, and socially responsible,” he noted.

Aiyedatiwa also highlighted the significance of education and youth empowerment, vowing to invest in vocational training and human capital development.

“We shall create a conducive environment for our youths to unleash their potential and talents through employment, capacity building, and entrepreneurship,” he assured.

Expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support, Aiyedatiwa commended the federal government’s commitment to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a project he said would significantly boost Ondo’s economy.

The governor concluded with a call for unity and cooperation, urging residents to work together in building a more prosperous Ondo State.

“We have no illusion that the task ahead is daunting, but with your support, we shall overcome every obstacle,” he declared.
