Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has commiserated with world heavyweight boxing star, Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua, and the families of victims who lost their lives in the tragic road accident along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
In a condolence message issued on Monday, Amosun described the accident as painful and deeply unfortunate, noting that it claimed the lives of two members of Joshua’s team.
He said the incident was a sobering reminder of how fragile life can be, while expressing gratitude that Joshua survived the crash.
According to the former governor, the loss has left families devastated and has cast a shadow over the global boxing community, where Joshua remains a respected figure and source of pride to many Nigerians.
“While we mourn this grievous loss, we thank the Almighty God for sparing your life. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult moment,” Amosun said.
He prayed for Joshua’s quick and full recovery and asked God to grant eternal rest to the departed, while also comforting their families and loved ones.
“I wish you a speedy and complete recovery, and I pray for the peaceful repose of the departed souls. May God comfort their families and grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.
Amosun also extended his sympathy to the families of the deceased and the wider boxing community, noting that the tragic incident has been felt far beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Anthony Joshua, a British Nigerian boxing icon and former unified world heavyweight champion, has continued to receive messages of support and goodwill from political leaders, sports stakeholders, and fans following the accident, which occurred along the busy Lagos Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
