Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s best days are still ahead, urging citizens to use their freedom to serve humanity and contribute to national development as the country marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.

Speaking during the interdenominational church service held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta, to commemorate the nation’s 65th National Day Celebration, the governor said true freedom is measured by the service rendered to others and the collective efforts made to build a better nation.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Governor Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the anniversary celebration should ignite renewed hope and steadfast faith in the hearts of Nigerians, assuring that the nation’s founding vision is still achievable.

According to him, “Our founding fathers dreamt of a nation where no man is oppressed, where opportunities abound for all, and where the wealth of our land is shared equitably. This vision is within our reach if only we continue to hold fast to patriotism, integrity, service, and shared responsibility.”

The governor maintained that the gathering was not only to celebrate Nigeria’s journey but to reflect on its progress, challenges, and the boundless potential that lies ahead. “We must summon the courage to move beyond despair into a future bright with possibilities,” he said.

Abiodun commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and commitment to nation-building through bold socio-economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the policies were already attracting investors, stabilizing the currency, and laying a foundation for inclusive prosperity.

He emphasized that unity remains the cornerstone of his administration, adding that Ogun State has made remarkable progress in infrastructure, health, education, and youth empowerment through people-centered governance aligned with the president’s vision.

“Sustainable nation-building thrives on dialogue, understanding, and harmonious coexistence,” Abiodun stated, urging Nigerians to reflect on the past six and a half decades with gratitude and look to the horizon with hope for a glorious future.

Delivering the national day sermon titled “A New Nigeria Is Possible, The Time Is Now,” the Diocesan Bishop of Awori Anglican Diocese, Rev. (Dr) Johnson Akintomide, said the anniversary symbolizes hope, gratitude, and prayer for divine intervention in the nation’s affairs.

Referencing Isaiah 43, the cleric likened Nigeria’s current challenges to the Israelites’ captivity, praying that God will deliver the country from hardship, insecurity, corruption, and injustice.

He urged citizens to cooperate with God through persistent prayers, raising godly leaders, rejecting corruption, and promoting unity.

Rev. Akintomide congratulated President Tinubu and Governor Abiodun on the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary and commended their developmental strides.

He urged governments at all levels to prioritize education, justice, and peace while leading with wisdom and integrity.

Prayers were offered for Nigeria, Ogun State, political leaders, traditional rulers, and spiritual institutions at the service.
