Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, Ogbagba II, describing him as a monarch who lived for the people and devoted his 65-year reign to service, tradition, and visionary leadership.

Speaking in solemn reflection during the final rites of passage held in honour of the revered royal father, Governor Abiodun said Oba Adetona was more than a traditional ruler. He was a symbol of courage, wisdom, and integrity whose contributions extended far beyond the borders of Ijebuland.

“Kabiyesi was a towering figure. For 65 years, he stood as a beacon of strength, wisdom, and service. He was not just a custodian of our heritage, but also a true statesman whose legacy shaped Ijebuland, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole,” the governor said.

Abiodun recalled the personal and institutional support he enjoyed from the monarch over the years, noting how the king’s prayers and open endorsement played a key role during critical stages of his political journey.

“In moments of difficulty, Kabiyesi stood with us. He prayed for us, encouraged us, and offered wise counsel. His endorsement was not just a blessing but a powerful statement of faith in our vision for Ogun State,” he added.

To immortalize the late monarch, Abiodun disclosed that his administration deliberately prioritized projects and reforms tied to Oba Adetona’s legacy. These include the construction of the Ijebu Ode–Mojoda–Epe Road, the renaming of TASCE to Oba Sikiru Adetona College of Science and Technology, and the successful passage of the traditional institution burial rights reform bill.

“These are not mere projects; they are symbols of our deep respect and recognition of a man who gave his all for his people,” Abiodun said.

As the state bids its final farewell, Governor Abiodun prayed for the peaceful repose of the royal father’s soul and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to upholding the noble ideals and values the Awujale stood for.

“Sun re o, Baba wa,” he concluded.
