Nigeria’s telecom operator, 9mobile, has rebranded to T2, unveiling a new identity and a commitment to becoming a fully digital-first service provider with improved speed, efficiency, and customer experience.

The transformation, announced on Friday at a relaunch event in Lagos, marks what the company described as a “strategic overhaul” aimed at meeting the growing demands of startups, creatives, and remote workers in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital space.

Chief Executive Officer, Obafemi Banigbe, said the rebranding represents more than a change of name.

“We are no longer who we were; we are becoming something greater, more ambitious, and more in tune with the future,” he stated.
“Our challenges are reminders, not defeats. This new chapter is about resilience, innovation, and putting our customers at the very heart of everything we do.”

The event was attended by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, along with key industry stakeholders.

Banigbe explained that T2 will leverage cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytics to deliver personalised products and faster service rollouts. He dedicated the rebranding to “every Nigerian dreaming of something better,” urging citizens to “reimagine, rebuild, and relaunch.”

The company’s renewed push for wider coverage comes on the heels of a three-year national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria, signed in July and approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission. The deal allows T2 customers to use MTN’s extensive network nationwide, particularly benefiting underserved communities.

“This partnership ensures that whether you’re in the heart of Lagos or in the most remote parts of Nigeria, T2 will keep you connected,” Banigbe added.

Formerly launched as Etisalat Nigeria in 2008, the telecom brand grew quickly by introducing 3G and 4G LTE services, targeting Nigeria’s youth market. It later rebranded to 9mobile in 2017 after a debt crisis led to Etisalat Group’s exit, with Teleology Holdings Limited taking control in 2018.

Banigbe acknowledged the brand’s turbulent past but said T2 is ready for a future driven by innovation and collaboration.

“We’ve weathered storms before. This time, we’re charting a course that will set us apart in the Nigerian telecom landscape,” he said.
